October 10, 2007
Thanks to everyone for coming to the October 10th meeting. We had a great turnout. Also a big thank you to Amanda Olson for donating her time to help with child care.
Monies
Charlie sent a letter along with a check for 250.00 to Leon for his help with design day. Money is still coming in from bag sales. If you need more bags or know of someone who would like to sell bags please let us know. We are trying to reach a goal of 20,000 by December.
We sent a package with Suzanne Rust to take with her to the conference in Juneau. She said she talked with many organizations and had positive conversations with almost all. Everyone seems to be open to the idea of donating to our playground. Big question is how they will be recognized. Suzanne will type up an outline of her conversations and who she spoke with for our next meeting.
Steering Committee vacant spaces filled
Howard Carbone has taken on donated materials
Rob Shelby will be in charge of donated tools.
Thanks to both of you!!!
Site Update
The next public facilities meeting will be in November. Most likely the week before Thanksgiving. Land Design North will propose the final plan, there will then be a 30 day public comment period. We will know exactly where we can put the playground at the end of this process.
We have questions about when we can get on to the property and start clearing trees. We are still waiting for an answer from the borough.
Build Date
The group decided to push the build date back because of the possibility of frozen ground. The new build dates will be June 4th - June 8th. We have rescheduled with Leathers.
We encourage you to invite friends and family to come up and help us build!!
John Dean is now our project manager. He received our request for design changes and says that he can accommodate most of our changes. He says they can not do a "Zip Line" or incorporate water.
Children's Committee/ Playground name
Tasha had many ideas from the Children's committee about the name of the new playground. We narrowed the list down to a few choices and Tasha will meet with the committee again to determine what the children think the name should be. We will hopefully have the name by the next meeting.
After much discussion the donation tiers have been decided:
Tier 1- 10,000 + = Denali
Tier 2- 5,000-9,999 = Tokasitna Glacier
Tier 3- 1,000- 4,999 = Susitna River
Tier 4- 500-999 = Twister Creek
Tier 5- 100-499 = Birch Tree
Anita is working on our brochure.
October 27th Fundraiser
We still need to fill a few volunteer positions for the magic show. If you would like to help out or know someone who would like to help out please have them contact Lisa Shelby at 733-9873 or rishelby@mtaonline.net
Tickets for the show are on sale at Talkeetna Travel. Please tell everyone you meet about the show and encourage them to come out for a fun night to support a good cause!!
December 8th Fundraiser
We would like to do the Wine/ Desert Tasting along with a silent auction. We still are hung up on event insurance. We are researching to find a solution. Christie Seay has volunteered to be the lead on this event. Elizabeth Tatera will be in charge of the silent auction.
Next meeting is Wednesday October 24th, 6:30pm at the Roadhouse.
Hope to see you there!!!
